About Arlene Stock, Founder
Born to concert-pianist parents, Arlene Stock grew up under the Steinway that graced her music-filled home in the Bronx. A lifelong New Yorker, she came to the formation of
The Classical Musicians' Rehearsal Symphony Orchestra, LLC, from a diversified background, having been a trained classical musician, a professional court reporter who achieved the highest recognition in that field, and a successful entrepreneur who founded and ran Dynamic Management Services, Inc., for 21 years.
Ms. Stock is an active participant in Great Books Discussion Groups, a member of community orchestras, and a Past-President of her Toastmasters Club. She continues to offer management consulting services to individuals and the not-for-profit community.
In founding The Classical Musicians' Rehearsal Symphony Orchestra, Ms. Stock harmonized her musical heritage with her volunteer and entrepreneurial expertise, creating a home for all who would make music.
About Reuben Blundell, DMA, Music Director
Dr. Reuben Blundell is Music Director of Pennsylvania's Lansdowne Symphony Orchestra, one of Pennsylvania's great artistic treasures. This year, the LSO works with Philadelphia Orchestra's Concertmaster David Kim and completes its groundbreaking recording project of unheard classics by American Romantic-era composers. Dr. Blundell is also Music Director of The Riverside Orchestra, in New York City, collaborating with soloists from across New York, including members of the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra and the New York Philharmonic. He also performs with The Chelsea Symphony as a conductor, and, when not conducting, as a Concertmaster. For eight years, he served as Assistant Professor at CUNY's Hunter College, and recently joined the conducting faculty at New York's Trinity School. Reuben comes to us via his native Australia and the Eastman School of Music, in Rochester, NY, from which he was awarded his DMA in January 2010. A lifelong musician, Dr. Blundell brings his expertise as concertmaster at such distinguished venues as the Tanglewood Music Center and Michael Tilson Thomas' New World Symphony to his directorship of The Classical Musicians' Rehearsal Symphony Orchestra. Putting into practice his belief in the power of music to create transformational change, Dr. Blundell joins us in creating a home for all who would make music.
About Saya Callner, Conductor
Saya Callner is the Director of the Music Ministry at The Park Avenue Christian Church, and Conductor of the New York Mixed Chorus and the Chorus Schola Sine Nomine. Additionally, Ms. Callner is the Founder, in 2007, and Director of New York's Chromatic Voice Exchange, a unique chorus made up of music theorists, composers, and instrumentalists, with whom she has premiered more than 30 compositions and has performed the major choral-orchestral repertoire. A native of Japan, Ms. Callner came to the U.S. to study and earned her Master of Music in Choral Conducting and Music Theory from Mannes, Master of Orchestral Conducting from the University of Michigan, and is currently in the DMA program in Orchestral Conducting, with Kynan Johns, at Rutgers University. A dedicated teacher of piano, musicianship, music theory, and conducting, Ms. Callner brings her knowledge, infectious enthusiasm, and energy to our orchestral readings.
About Shawn Chang, Pianist/Assistant Conductor
Both pianist and composer, Shawn Chang has created an international career of distinction. As a pianist he has appeared in the United States, Canada, and Taiwan with performances ranging from recital and chamber music to concerto. Since his solo piano debut at the Chiang Kai-Shek Memorial Hall in Taipei, Mr. Chang has performed extensively throughout Asia and North America. As a compser, his compositions encompass piano solos, vocal music, and chamber music. His recent piano arrangement of the Dutch folk song "tulpen uit Amsterdam," premiered by pianist Ying Feng, received critical acclaim at the Prinsjesdagconcert in The Hague. His original works have been premiered by the Chromatic Voice Exchange Chorus, Novello String Ensemble, aTonal Hits Duo, and solo artists Paolo Maliksj, Jamie Jordan, and Edward Prevost, among others. Mr. Chang is also a frequent performer/composer for the Soofser Concert Series at the National Bohemian Hall at the Czech Center in New York City. Born in Taipei, Taiwan, Shawn Chang currently lives in New York City. He holds a Bachelor of Music degree from the Peabody Conservatory and a Master's degree from the Mannes College of the New School. As Pianist/Assistant Conductor of our orchestra, Mr. Chang performs feats of score-reading with pianistic wizardry that leave us breathless!
